There are no single core Core 2 processors. That's why. 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo is the bottom of the line. Cost Apple same they paid for Solo 1.5GHz Yonah.
Yeah I thought mini would go Core 2 last. But maybe Apple is getting such a huge shipment that they can go Core 2 across the board right away. I don't know. Hope Springs Eternal. :p

I fancy a bit of a redesign (nothing wild, maybe a bit thinner and change of colour? a bit bored of them now, but probably just me).
But yeah, good stuff :)
Since my iMac is one of the white iMacs (1st gen Intel) I'm fine with silver - but I agree, the design, as beautiful as it is, could be updated. I would love thinner (no practical use, just looks so much nicer than ... and the apple trend seems to 'thinner is better')

I agree. I have a 20" widescreen, and don't see a need to replace that any time soon. Over on the PC side, "they" are going to try and push you into upgrading if you want to watch hi-def content, as they will restrict playback to monitors that support HDCP. I guess Apple can try and entice you with a built-in iSight or semi-forced bundling of monitors with the iMac. But really, a good monitor can last you through at least two computers, so why waste the money?

I used to have gigs and gigs of music. Then one day I realized most of it was crap that didn't enrich my life in any way. Only hoarders feel the need to carry around that much music with them. It's akin to carrying around thousands of high res images of paintings from the worlds great museums just so you could hit shuffle and revisit some of those awe inspiring moments of self realization.
Actually an app that did that would be pretty cool.
Anyway, you get my point. Not all of us dream about working in a record store.
Now, a 220gb retina display iPod Classic Touch would be useful. Something that allowed you to save any type of data, not just music, videos and photos.

With HDMI, they'd have to be shooting higher than 480p. I'd say they'd go all out with 1080p, why not?
My guess would be too much cost for such a small market. There's not a lot of 1080p content out there and even less 1080p displays. For a first gen device, I think 720p would be good enough. Maybe even 480p if it's cheap enough.
Although, in the end it'll probably depend on bandwidth limitations. They never said what protocol they'll be using. Some are assuming 802.11n, but that would limit them to the newest Intel Macs with a firmware upgrade.

Saw this thread, read about various people's encounters with stores selling (or rather NOT selling) Zunes, and decided to check it out for myself after work. I figure "maybe some people are exaggerating their experiences?" I'll try and give the Zune the benefit of the doubt.
I go into the local Best Buy. I ask the "greeter" at the door if they have the new Zune in. She had heard of it, but she didn't know what the stock was and forwarded me onto "Jon" back in the mp3 player area.
I asked Jon if they had the new Zune. "We HAD it in stock, but I know we just ran out I can place an order for you, have it here in a couple of days!"
I was impressed. None of the instant badmouthing I'd come to expect. Untill...
"But if you don't want to wait, we've got a lot of iPods and nanos in. I'd say your best bet is to get an iPod."
I asked why, and soon learned that the store got a shipment of 8 Zunes. 4 were sold, one of which was returned that same day. 2 were put out on display, and since their introduction, they've broken and have been replaced by the two remaining Zunes in stock.
Jon seemed almost too knowledgable. He wasn't a Microsoft shill, and I could tell he wasn't a Rah-rah! Applephile. He just knew that it was a very problematic piece of hardware, pointing out the dishonest advertising of wi-fi, the odd pricing scheme at the store, and some ways to get around the repeated failures of the Zune music store software installation.
His opinion? "A good idea, but they rushed it to get it out before Christmas. They should have waited 6 months and worked the bugs out."

Not arguing about whether a Conroe would fit in the iMacIntel case - but wondering whether the extra heat would result in extra noise from the cooling fans.
The iMacIntel doesn't have to as fast as it possibly can, especially since the New Form-Factor Conroe Mini-Tower/Home-Theatre Mac® will be there for people who want a bit more power without the size and cost of the maxi-tower ProMacIntel.Noise could be an issue in the iMac. Still, even the Rev. C iMac G5 was much quieter then the Rev. B.

I got the Belkin Grip Vue in the blue color at bestbuy. Really a toss up between the three colors IMO.
Looks pretty decent from the front, but the blue is a bit feminine.
