Hey,
I usually edit video in final cut pro, and can probably pick up imovie pretty quickly, however I offered my wife's aunt to help her pick up video editing.
She has a PC
Who knows what software she's got...
My questions is: What PC Software, easily available and possibly free, can you guys recommend for an older lady?
Thanks,
r.
p.s. i of course will bring my macbook and give her the 'see how easy imovie is?' demo...

Oh, will it harm the hardware? I always wanted to try but just afraid that it would hard the speaker. And I meant increasing volume of alarm clock only without affecting the others. As in, separate system something like that. I dont wanna use 3rd party alarm because I heard that they are battery consuming, is that true? Thanks :o
It shouldn't harm the hardware, Ive used it before and no harm has come of my speakers. I don't know if Third party alarms are battery consuming, but they are worth a try really.
Ill see if I can find some way of modding the volume so that it only affects the alarm volume

currently living in Hanoi [don't pay attention at the location thing, it was updated weeks ago]... I don't think there is a vietnamese sattelite tv... there are currently 5 "channels" that is country-wide... VTV1,2,3 are the most common... VTV4 is for Vietnamese living in foreign countries and VTV5 is for ethnic groups... Inside news is that they're making a VTV6 for something... :o [was it marketing, advertising or some kind of shopping channel, didn't pay attention; anyhow, it's getting made] you can get foreign sattelite... quite a lot of it... if there any other question, just ask... maybe I'll take a trip to the broadcasting place to see VTV6 get made...

I feel slightly insulted, as noone here expects me to have done any research. After clicking the "Create trial acount" button in the teaser, it leads you to an error page. You click "Return to Main", whereafter you click the "Create Accoutn" button. Then you agree to some license stuff, and it then asks for the auth key here (https://signup.wow-europe.com/authkey.html).
Now I'm confused. The create account button says, it is for excisting guest costumers, who decide to purchase a full acount. I don't understand this, as I the see nowhere to create a trial account.
EDIT: Problem solved. I got the trial key he got from Burnign Crusade. Thanks a lot for your replies. :)

Entry Consumer Desktop (under $1300 USD):
I would have to say the emac 700 with the combo drive. You get a 17" monitor, a G4 and it is just over $1000 dollars.
I would like to see this model kept to replace the classic imac for perhaps...$899 after the next revision???
Consumer Desktop ($1300++ USD):
If I wanted the best system for the least money then the emac 800 SD would be my pick.
I think that the best value for the money and what you get is the 17" imac SD however. You get so much for the $500 more: a great FP widescreen monitor; a better designed computer; better videocard; more HD space...
Consumer Laptop:
12" 600mhz; 12" 700 mhz or 14" 700 mhz
My pick is the 12" 700mhz with the combo drive. I think that it is a better put together machine than the 14" and has a little more power to be worth more than the 600mhz of the 12". I don't think the 14" is worth the extra $$. It may be if it lets say had a 800mhz G3...something to differentiate it!
I am curious to see how Apple will update the form factor when they do!
Pro Laptop:
667mhz or 800mhz Powerbook
Tough call...depends on how much one wants to spend...I'll say the 800 simply for the reason that if you spend the kind of money the PBs cost you should get one that is better in every way than the consumer laptops (especially speed)
Pro Desktop:
dual 867 mhz; dual 1 ghz or dual 1.25 ghz; maybe even 17" imac SD
I like the dual 867 mhz model...simply because these seem to be stop-gap models and I think that you get an excellent machine for $1699 compared with the 733 G4 and 800 G4 (the past entry level models). Why pay the big $$ when you get a great dual for $1699.
and what the heck:
ipod 20GB for $499- $100 more than the original for 4x the space + case and wired remote = great deal!

Hi guys -
I'm starting up a GB team: MPYRE
This will be an Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Team Ladder Team.
Our main focus will be normal Team Deathmatch and Search and Destroy. I want to have our games on Saturdays and Sundays, and practices frequently during the week. We will have a warm up match before the first game we play each day.
I'm looking to recruit 4 members and a Co-Leader.
Main things we're looking for:
•Maturity - When we play matches there will be NO trash talking. This makes everyone on our team look bad. If you are constantly talking trash to the other team (even if they start it!) you will be kicked out. I want to try to keep it ages 15+ (I'm 15, but more mature than most people my age. If you have a problem with that you can leave right now.) Also, you will respect every member of the team. Playfulness is fine, but if you start putting other teammates down then we have a problem. You will listen to everyone with a higher rank than you (i.e. a member will always obey reasonable orders from a Co-Leader.) You will not try to sabotage the team. I have seen this happen way too many times in the past. One person isn't happy with the team so they try to get all of the members to leave.
• Good tactical and gun skills - You must be able to actually win a gun battle. I don't want people who are going to run around like idiots and get killed in the first ten seconds. You must be able to drop shot, knife, camp, rush, etc.
•You must have the following equipment: 30"+ HDTV, Surround Sound headset (Turtle Beach, etc.) or system (Bose surround, etc.), working mic, working xbox 360 and controller, camera (to take pictures of the scores), HD PVRs or Cap Cards are not required but are a huge plus! I don't have one, so if any of you do that would be great!
•Dedication - You need to be dedicated to this team. This isn't going to be some half-ass team, I want to be one of the best. It is going to require a lot of hard work, raw talent, dedication, and practice but I think we can do it. We will have at least 3 practices a week and 4 or more games every weekend. You should be online every day for at least 2 hours. I'm not too concerned with Kill/Death ratios (as long as they are reasonable. Mine is currently 1.27) because I understand that sometimes people do better or worse in public matches than in Gamebattles. Also, you will never give up if we're losing a game. We will all fight to the very end as a team. We win as a team. We lose as a team. Its as simple as that.
•Activity - If you are inactive for over a week and we can't get a hold of you, you will be removed from the roster. If you come back and we still have a spot open for you we will consider accepting you back depending on why you left in the first place. Please notify us if you aren't going to be online for an extended period of time so we can make arrangements to have you replaced.
•Rules - You will follow the following rules: Gamebattles Terms of Use (http://gamebattles.com/terms.php), Gamebattles Team Ladder Rules (http://gamebattles.com/xbox360/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2/ladder/team/rules), All US Laws, Xbox.com Terms of Use (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/legal/xboxComTOU.htm), and Xbox LIVE Code of Conduct (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/legal/codeOfConduct.htm). You will also follow any rules put forth by members of the team with a higher rank than you. There will be ABSOLUTELY NO Cheating, Hacking, Modding, Glitching, or any other unfair gameplay. If you violate any of these rules you will either be given a warning, suspended, or banned from our team. There will be no exceptions.
•Finally, Skill. You actually have to be GOOD to be considered for a role in this team. You must have great tactical and gun skills, good teamwork, you must be able to communicate. If you see an enemy, you need to immediately notify everyone where you saw him. You just need to be an overall good player.
Tryouts will be held every day at 5:00PM MST (GMT -7:00). If you would like to sign up please reply to this thread and/or add me on Xbox Live.

Hello, I was editing a document with some Japanese and my mac got set to this language. I walked away from the computer and now it's only allowing me to type in Japanese when I try and log back in. Is there a hotkey combo that will allow me to toggle back to English? Thanks
Edit: After I typed the answer below, I found that this is actually a Catch 22-type of problem. You need to set "Show input method at log in" in the Accounts/Log-in Options in System Preferences, but you cannot do that until you are loged in ???.
Anyone know how to get around this? May have to boot up from the System DVD and change the password. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274 "Resetting the original administrator account password"
1. At log in, the language used is as set in the System Preferences, Language and Text, Language -- the system uses the language on the top of the list on the left side. I don't know what t do if you have the system set to show the log in screen. Can you use the mouse and the icon flag/hiragana icon up to the right on the menu bar to select the American flag (English)?
2. On a Japanese keyboard, there is an English and Japanese key on the right and left sides of the space bar. I ssume you have and American or British keyboard, so that doesn't help.
Normally, the hot key to set the language used is Command+Space, but that is set to pop up Spotlight, so go to the System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, Spotlight, and uncheck both boxes.
You can also mouse up to the top right, (next to the sound indicator) and click on the English flag/Hiragana (あ) and select the language there (depends on what is set in the Language and Text, Input sources dialog box. Set two, English and Kotoeri, switch between them manually using the flag/hiragana icon, then try using the Command+Space hot key. Should work alright now.
You may have to search the Apple database for more info on switching to English at the log-in screen.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4099
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4102
Which say: Use the System Preferences from the Apple Menu, follow the instructions as shown above.

Could you not directly connect the two Mac's together with ethernet and then have them use their own Airport cards to connect to a different network? I'm not 100% sure if that would work, but seems like it could. When I need to transfer files to my wife's laptop I often plug it into my Mac Pro via ethernet and transfer the files. Meanwhile, I am still browsing the web on my Mac Pro via our WiFi network. The only difference there is that I'm sharing my internet from Airport to the laptop via ethernet, so I'm not sure if the laptop would still be able to use WiFi separately from the wired connection.

That's one of the reasons why I decided to get a logitech keyboard and mouse for my iMac instead of using the Apple ones. They have extra buttons that control itunes that don't require you to have itunes as the top program.
Yes, it's the one thing I miss about my PC's keyboard. It was very handy to have media buttons at the top to control iTunes.
I prefer the Apple keyboard from the feel of the keys, though, so I'll be sticking with one of those.
I'd thought about the menubar option, but I haven't really got enough space - I have too many icons as it is:
