Where has this "7455A" idea come from? Link?
rice_web:
If the 7455 has made it to 1.33ghz to 1.4ghz, then why do you think it took Apple so long to ship 1.25's? I think we can conclude that only a very small number of chips clock above 1.25ghz.

I have to admit, I've been an adament PC user for a very long time, ever since the days of Windows 3.X. As a kid I always wanted a mac, but I ended up with a Pentium 120 MHz instead. Since then, I've steadily made my own PCs, but recently at my IT support job at college I had my choice of computers to use, and I chose an old G4 Cube. Upon getting a two-button mouse, I have to admit OS X has been a joy to use, and an ease with X11 and my engineering classes.
As I see it, Windows is headed in the wrong direction. Windows XP is solid and crash resistant, but with the hassle of a registry and the complication of uninstalling some applications, its not a smooth experience... especially when you have semi-annual formattings to maintain proper speed. The amazing thing I've found in the mac world is that operating systems actually improve speed and performance. This may not be true in the future thanks to the G5, but its still amazing none-the-less.
With this said, I just purchased a 1.8 GHz G5 powermac with a Radeon 9600. I'm sure it will be a world of improvement over the cube I'm use to, once I actually receive it. I was very impressed by the simplicity of my iPod... so I hope my experience will be just as good with the tower. I still find it ironic that I'll be using a Microsoft mouse and keyboard since Apple won't make two-button mice or ergonomic keyboards ... but I guess I'll just have to live with that.
Now to find some equivalent speakers to the Apple Pro Speakers and I'll be happy...

Hey guys
I have 2 Western Digital NAS drives attached to an Airport Extreme and shared via AFP.
The AE connects to a Powerline system and is picked up in another room by my Mac Mini.
Everything was working fine until I bought my new AE.
Now i can only see the drives on my Mac Pro (connected by ethernet to AE) and not the Mac Mini. The Mac Mini can browse the web so there's no connection problem between the AE and the mini.
Are there some settings on the AE i need to change??
Help would be greatly appreciated!

If there is nothing you absolutely need to save on the external, you might consider re-initializing it with Disk Utility into a single partition....

A search will answer all those questions but one thing you do need to keep in mind is apple now signs all of it's firmware. So downgrading is not as easy as it was back in say the 2.x days. If you do not have your SHSH blobs on file you will. Ot be able to downgrade anything. If you are not sure what I'm talking about look up info on saving SHSH blobs and read up.

Install iStat Pro (http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/) to get accurate readings of your temps, among other things.

I totally agree with you eva01, there will always be rumors of an upgrade. However, I just want the thing to be new for more than a week. I'd like to get about 3 months out of it..... otherwise I'll wait. Sorry if I came off as one of those people who just wait, wait, and wait becuase there could be something better around the corner.... of course there's something better around the corner!!
Its just that there are sometimes when waiting a week could help you out big time. I just want to makesure that I won't be regreating this in a week's time...

Hi all,
This is just a FEELER but I might want to trade my ibook for a more powerfull desktop machine and my eMac for an apple laptop.
iBook I have:
12"@ 1.2Ghz
768 MB ram
30 GB HD
Airport
Combo
Battery holds 95% of original charge!
Out of 10 my ibook cosmetically is at an 8, few scuffs on outer case but the inside is cosmetically perfect.
eMac I have:
1ghz
640 MB ram
60 GB HD
Combo
Cosmeticaly almost perfect
European offers are prefered since shipping is cheaper, once again this is only a feeler(might act on it though:D )

The PowerBook G4 you have has an internal modem, which you can use for dial-up. You can use more than one computer on dial-up at a time if you have the computer with dial-up access share internet to other computers on the network. However, dial-up is so slow that it's not really worth it.
There's no way to use a USB modem with a Kindle since the Kindle doesn't have a USB port for anything other than sync and other similar functions.
