SubRosaSoft (http://www.subrosasoft.com/) in booth 218 in the South Hall showed its data protection programs, including FileSalvage and FileDefense.
FileSalvage is a data recovery program that assists in the recovery of data lost due to varying situations, including media corruption and accidental deletion. While many may think that such software has become antiquated with the push that Apple has made with Time Machine, it should be noted that FileSalvage also works on flash drives and other removable media as well as hard drives and disk images, and can work with almost any format (over 100 are currently supported). FileSalvage website (http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1)
FileDefense is a program that promises to protect users from malicious programs. FileDefense works by monitoring whenever programs try to write to the disk. Users can, of course, white-list programs, and certain programs are automatically white-listed so as to not inundate the user with notifications. However, the potential for the application did become somewhat apparent when SubRosaSoft demoed a proof-of-concept Trojan that when launched modified iTunes by writing junk data into iTunes.app. SubRosaSoft says the trojan did not require administrative permissions, and indeed no pop-up was delivered to ask for administrative rights. However, what did pop-up was FileDefense telling me about the pending malicious action and asking me if I wanted to allow it. FileDefense website (http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=204)
SubRosaSoft also was showcasing two of its products that it sells to law enforcement: MacForensicsLab and MacLockPick. While clearly these are very nich applications, I did ask how the Mac forensics market was doing. SubRosaSoft representative Ben Brausen said that the market has grown over the past two years as the industry has found problems needing solutions. Additionally, SubRosaSoft has provided tri-platform solutions (PC/Mac/Linux) at lower prices than the competition.

Ive installed Linux (Suse, RedHat, Debian) and BSD on VPC. It is (in theory) a virtual PC so anything that would be able to beinstalled on a PC could be installed on VPC. There are a few issues with some OS's but all in all its pretty decent.

Hi there,
I'm trying to code a navigation app using table views to give a list of names and when the persons table cell is selected it brings up a nib for that person.
So far I've been able to create the tables, populate it with data from an array and get when a cell is selected to change the view to a different nib. what I want to do is be able to navigate to a different nib file based on the cell selected.
My root view controller code is
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
@interface RootViewController : UITableViewController
<UITableViewDataSource, UITableViewDelegate>
{

I've used them, got a 2.93GHz Mac Pro (2009)/4870/6GB RAM/2x Superdrives/Airport/1TB HDD for 2100.00 all factory refurbed and warranted with apple care I got for like 150.00 from somewhere else. Apple wants 2799.00 for the same refurbed unit.

On a related note, I use a search
http://forums.macrumors.com/search.php?do=process&starteronly=0&searchuser=balamw&exactname=1&sortby=laspost
to find all the threads I have participated in.
It would be perfect for my needs if "lastpost" sorted on the thread's last update date, but it seems to sort on the last date of my post. So it doesn't do a good job of revealing any necroposts.
Is there a way to do that?

I'm also wondering about this, especially compared to other cards.
Ive been looking into getting a new video card for my 1,1 mac pro for some time but I dont want to pay upwards of 250$ for an apple one just to find out its uncompatable with the mac pro, or drop 250$ on a card that i can get for 150$ on newegg and flash it :P

Yeah, I got the same thing as i_wolf. They may not say "Shipping in 4-6/6-8 weeks" on the main page under the "Fastest" and "Ultimate" headings, but it shows up as 6-8 when you review your order.

Hi,
As it says in the title I need some suggestions for a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for the Mac Mini. ( I will be getting it next month, I already have 8gb ram ready to go in it :) ).
This will be my 1st MAC and I will be using it for everday tasks (Watching DVD's, E-mail, surfing, some iPhoto) aswell as playing World of Warcraft.
I like the look of the Apple wireless keyboard and the Magic mouse but I was wondering if they are worth the 114 asking price or are there better alternatives?.
Thanks.
EDIT : If I eventually use Bootcamp to put Windows 7 on the Mini would the Magic Mouse work?.

I agree with you. I liked how I could look back and see where i've been. I think like antennagate, the issue was overblown.

You want to use the beta SMP version--it will eventually expire and need an update, but it folds FAST! And it is the native version needed for Intel Macs.
Remove ALL traces of previous folding (search for f@h and fah and folding, I suppose) then gat "SMP Client Installer" here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html
You won't need the terminal--it's a nice pref pane now. But at least during the beta period, be sure that:
a) You run it nearly full-time (deadlines are vey tight)
and b) You don't change your network (like pulling the Ethernet out or even losing yoru WiFi signal accidentally) without Stopping folding first. (This is done via System Preferences now.) My Wi-Fi drops out a few times a day, and all work is lost when it happens :( But Stanford knows about the issue I think.
InCrease may be useful, but I believe it's quirky with SMP still.
If you're already using SMP, then maybe it's just a temporary outage at Stanford.
More info at the teammacosx.com forums -- and we're open to helping any team, not just our own :) All are welcome, and all help the science.

New site section: MacRumors Shop (http://shop.macrumors.com/)
And new associated forum: Mac Shop - Items of Interest (http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=51)
This is not a traditional shop or store. Instead, it provides sponsored links to various venders as well as items of interest (mac or not mac related).
The purpose is to provide regular readers another method to support the site. Supporting the linked sponsors helps support this site... but does not require a direct contribution.
Cost of items bought at various stores are the same to the reader. So, there is no disadvantage in purchasing items via the Shop.
In other news... the Frosted Contributor's Mug is out of stock and may not be returning.
Official (frontpage) announcement to follow....

Quick question - Do I still need MyWi to tether my iPhone 3GS to my iPad?
I'm on IOS 4.2.1, Jailbroken and use MyWi 4.0 to tether my iPad and MBP.
I have the AT&T plan with tethering ($20 more a month) but it only has Bluetooth and USB sharing. Have they added WiFi Hotspot yet?
MyWi works well but I'd like to keep up with IOS releases and really only used Jailbreak to install the MyWi app. That was before I decided to change my plan to include AT&T data plan with tethering. Now that I'm "legal", I'm asking if the latest IOS has a WiFi tether option along with Bluetooth and USB.
I'm asking on MacRumors because I'll get a straight answer.
Thanks in advance.
Alan

Safer, really, as you eliminate the risk of being hit by a bus, in a car accident, mugged, robbed, stabbed, shot, in a train derailment, etc...
Yeah, just like the house blowing up, a car crashing into my house and the computer going on fire :p hahaha. Seriously I was talking about spending money when mentioning it was safer.

No, PPC is completely gone.
A good example of how much of it is gone is that if you even try to compile the smallest app with PPC listed as an architecture you will get at least 9,000 errors related to missing information.

I guess in this case they are considering factors other than capacity. If the older type batteries had problems and the newer ones do not, that would be a "higher graded item."

I just got a Body Glove Vibe slider case that I love but I already know it's going to bubble most screen protectors.
Are there any options out there (besides Zagg, since I hate the orange peel effect) that can give me a nice crystal style screen protector cut smaller so it works with slider cases? :(
Thanks for your help guys.

Changing the title in Edit>Advanced might get you more responses...
I have now done that :) But its weird how I actually named it correctly. The original iPhone is just called iPhone. The new one is iPhone 3G.

I don't believe there will be a great difference between the 6750 and the 6770.
