We maintain a few computer labs where I work and have some Macs on an Active Directory (AD) domain. The users (mainly students) log in and have their home folder on the network (via smb). It works great; users can take their environment with them wherever they log in and all that jazz.
Is anyone else running such an environment, and have you tried Lion yet? With the way Apple is moving (app store, OS more geared to the consumer) I wonder if these features will remain, or if there are problems integrating Lion into such an environment.
We love the flexibility OS X accords us; we can set up individual machines to either create local home folders for AD users, or use the network home directories, as well as lock down the machines pretty well.
I have not tested in an AD domain, but my understanding is SAMBA is being replaced (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/03/23/inside_mac_os_x_10_7_lion_server_apple_replaces_samba_for_windows_networking_services.html) with Apple's implementation of it.
Using the NT domain controller will not be an option either. Active Directory only. I am not in an enviroment to test for you. Sorry.

I started Chapter 5 yesterday, and I'm really getting my money's worth. My only criticism would be that the puzzles are a little too easy. So far, everything's been pretty much smooth sailing - the old games were a lot tougher! But the story is great and well-told. I hope they make another "season" soon!

Yeah, sorry, that's why I'm also looking for just the enclosure on its own. I can't afford anything over $100, and that's really my absolute limit, sorry.
I thought you said that the drive is dying?
so if you have an enclosure with a drive that has 100GB+ of space on it... we can deal!

It's actually way better than I was expecting.
Same here. I was thinking for a .7 megapixel camera the photos would be terrible, but not so much, or perhaps OP is a really talented photographer. :D

He's right you should try to put 512 MB in there if you're running 10.4 to get a little more performance. I think you can go up to 1.25 GB of RAM on that computer.

Has anyone reviewed this? I want to know if its gonna be just like any other 30 dollar speakers cause if so I want it heh. I've got a cordful one right now from CA with subwoofer and 2 speakers, I'm wondering if Googles speaker system would be equal to or greater than mine I have now.
Features include No AC Cord, Surround Sound, Trebel + Base controls, Orange LED when on. Works with Mac apparently ;-)

The device in question is:
My jailbroken iPod Touch 4g running 4.2.1 and jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.6b4 (Tethered of course)
When I first jailbroke it, it all worked perfectly and the computer could detect it. Now though I 'm using a new netbook for the first time. I know the computer must know some hardware is plugged in because when I plug it in and out Windows makes the usual "Device found/unplugged" sound. But I cannot find my iPod in /Computer and iTunes doesn't detect a thing however it does detect my sisters Shuffle. It won't charge either. The last time I synced it was at a friends house. He kindly let me Boot Tethered with redsn0w because I had just been on a flight and had to turn it off. It all worked well that time.
Forget about me using my previous computer, I no longer have that one. I would restore but the problem is I have photos I really don't want to lose in camera roll...and since the computer can't detect it I can't transfer them to the netbook. The only things that I have changed since my stop at my friends house are:
A case and screen protector
Some stuff downloaded from cydia
I really think it's the computers problem but I don't have any leads on that. Thanks for any help guys...I really appreciate it

U can actually create an account from within your app, via a webservice to your back-end, and log in with that.
THe problem with apple is, if your app, is mostly just a single screen with an UIWebview, that does it all for you. There is a high chance they will reject it, because it's not usefull enough..
What apps mostly do, like "Nespresso", is create a tabbar, and provide some additional info, with objective C stuff.
Just saying what I heard, possible that changed!

So I have a linksys E3000 dual band. I have had countless problems running N on the 5 ghz band. I am running one side only (2.4 Mixed). I have a new mac mini (n) , macbook (g) , macbook pro (n) , G5 tower (wired) , iMac 17 (g) , xbox 360 (g) , atv2 (n) , ipad (n) , iphone 4 (n) , iphone 3g (g) , 2 ipodt4g (?). The router is putting out a good signal everywhere in the house. I am only getting about 1MB/S transfer between my Macbook Pro and my Mini. Any ideas. I bought a new router just a few days ago. I was getting the exact transfer speeds on the old g router running dd wrt . Any ideas? I have searched, and found everyone's situation is different. I would love to use the 5 ghz band, but I seem to have a lot of problems. Oh, I am running WPA2 for security. Thanks in advance.

So, the iMac is the best computer (other than the powermac of course) for final cut pro?
of course it is because it has the G5 and the 2GB of RAM you can have in it. Plus the huge HD and the DVD burner

I hate the idea of a 3D computer screen; it would cost more and I will be damned if I will wear 3D glasses on top of my reading glasses.

Nein. It's probably more localized, ie, your connection, telecoms company doing updates; could be a host of things.
If it continues for more than about a week then I would get in contact with the ISP

Im looking to hit the line at ~10am. I took the day off of work but every other mac fan I know is working. I am looking to team up with somebody so we can improve our odds. This helps with food runs and bathroom breaks.

I have to agree with reebzor. As cool as it sounds, if they can't find a way to use a charger or some sort of different system with a couple AA batteries it'll be a bigger headache than its worth.
Also, when are you really using a desktop computer in a "lower light" setting that would create a need for backlit keys? I only use my backlights in almost pitch black settings. I find that in low light or well lit areas my backlights actually washout the keyboard on MBP and make it harder to see the keys.

Would someone be interested to add the following to a fairly prominent place (I'm under the 20 posts with my first post here)? I think it's nice to be directed to other resources out there, if for nothing else than to save work for those working on your guide.
Also, could I suggest a "Reviews" section--maybe not with POV, but with feature comparisons. I am always disappointed when reading feature comparisons in articles that these are not easily updatable with new versions as wiki can allow or to list other features not thought important by the writer (even to do comparison with Windows/Linux products, but primarily across macs).

Recently i noticed that by visiting a random page at macrumors.com safari starts downloading a file called "banner.php.jpeg". After download the banner is automatically shown in preview.
Havent seen it happening on windows, but happens often on my mac and only when visiting macrumors.com.
The file is downloaded from:
_h_t_t_p://banner.nonstoppartner.net/common/banner.php?i=view&client=otto&l=nl&camp=aktion&size=160x600
I consider this a security issue since it starts OSX preview to show the banner jpeg and could possibly run malicious code.
Anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks
Bjorn.

For your text ( #membershipcontent ), remove the "position: relative" and/or "left: 285px"
Think of relative positioning as a "nudge" -- the browser does most of the rendering and then moves any elements relatively positioned by the number of pixels you tell it. In your case, 285px on the left which bumps it to the right.
